Yarmouth Vanguard June 19, 2007 Edition. "Clare Business Recognized for Environmental Efforts" "UJ Robichaud TIMBR mart in Clare has been recognized as a business leader for its efforts to improve environmental and economic performance. The honour came from the Dalhousie Eco-Efficiency Centre. The Meteghan River store has made operational changes to improve energy efficiency, most notably switching from incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs, a move that resulted in 1400$/year in energy cost savings. Other modifications included adding wall insulation, installing skylights in dimly lit areas, using fuel additives in company trucks to decrease emissions and increase fuel efficiency and using old pallets and wood scraps as a heat source for on-site buildings. "There's certainly a connection between being energy efficient and the bottom line," said Marc Robichaud of UJ Robichaud TIMBR Mart. "It just made sense to do. Plus we've found this had a positive effect on our team. We've made it a fun place to work and everyone wants to do the right thing." Robichaud has brought his customers on board by growing his eco friendly
product line, and giving away the sawdust generated from woodworking operations
as a fuel source. This year, UJ Robichaud marks its 140th year as a family owned
business, the company having started as a sawmill" |
