Regular inspection of parts such as springs, wires,
hinges, rollers, and bearings is recommended. All moving parts wear as the
door is used and ages. These parts are crucial for the proper and safe
operation of the garage door. They must be replaces as they wear out.
Garage door springs, cables, brackets and other
hardware attached to the springs, are under very high tension and, if handled
improperly, can cause serious injury and damage. Please follow instructions.
Ideal Security recommends that torsion springs (the springs above the door)
should only be adjusted by a professional. Never remove, adjust or loosen the
screws on the bottom brackets of the door without supporting the door and
following instructions. These brackets are connected to the spring system by the
lift cable and are under extreme tension.
A restraining safety cable (SK7136) should be installed
on extension springs (the spring along the side of the door) to help contain the
spring if it breaks. The force exerted by a snapped extension spring can cause
serious injury to anybody close-by and significant damage to a vehicle in the
garage.
Like all mechanical systems, garage doors need regular
lubrication. Lubricate the moving parts of the door with a silicon based spray
only. Do not lubricate plastic rollers and plastic bearings.
