Camille Robichaud Camille is the fourth generation in the story of U.J. Robichaud. In the 1960's, Camille joined his father in the mill and later became the owner of the company. In 1973, the business was so good that Camille started construction of a new building, to be used as a warehouse and as office space. At the same time, Camille hired the company's first formal secretary to help manage the company's affairs. At the same time, volumes doubled, then tripled. Ulysse could not believe his eyes when the first full lift of plywood arrived, or the first full trailer of drywall. In 1978, Camille built the building which we now know as Chester's Mill (named in memory of a former employee who died in an accident in 1997). This building was to serve as an assembly station for Lockwood Windows and doors. In 1984, the decision was made to repair the existing Flour Mill and the Woodworking Mill, lest it fall into disrepair. Camille took great pride in the fact that the wooden shingles were each individually hand dipped prior to application, in the same manner as the originals would have been. Unfortunately, at this point, the wood dryer and the boiler room were beyond repair and had to be destroyed. In 1986, Camille remodeled and opened the very first showroom to display products to the customer. A big step from the warehouse they sold from before. In 1987, Camille made the leap from being an independent dealer to joining a building supply buying group, namely the Atlantic Wholesale and Retail Distribution Group, which we know as AWARD. AWARD has since grown to a formidable player on the Atlantic scene. And in 1988, he built a big warehouse to further accommodate the building supply products that the company was getting into. Camille is still very active at U.J. Robichaud. Want even more? |
